Daphne Gillen
About Daphne Gillen
I enjoy creating a variety of sculptural and functional objects, mainly using animal forms. I feel a kinship to animals, and they amuse me. I can express interactions and emotions without the stereotypes of gender and race associated with human forms. Also, I enjoy the challenge of mastering the many varieties of form, texture and color in the animal world.
I use a combination of slab building, wheel-throwing and pinching techniques. I bisque-fire each work to cone 01, then either raku-fire it or low-fire it in a conventional kiln.
